When to get medical help if you have COVID-19 symptoms

There is medical help available for people with COVID-19 symptoms.

Mild symptoms

The Test to Treat initiative launched in March 2022 helps people quickly access low or no-cost treatment. There are thousands of locations across the country, and you can find one close to you using the online locator. Treatments are most effective when started within 5 to 7 days of your first symptoms, even if your symptoms are mild.

If your healthcare provider has recommended that you manage your illness at home, you can do a few things to relieve your symptoms. The Mayo Clinic recommends:
Rest
Fluids
Pain relievers

Severe symptoms

COVID-19 symptoms can change significantly at any time. Call 911 or access emergency health treatment if you experience worsening symptoms. If left untreated, severe COVID-19 symptoms can lead to hospitalization or death.

The Mayo Clinic recommends watching for these signs and symptoms.
Trouble breathing
Decreased blood oxygen levels
Chest pain or pressure
A change in the color of skin, lips, or nail beds
Confusion or disorientation
Difficulty staying awake
If you experience any of the above or other symptoms not listed here, you should access medical care immediately.

As COVID-19 changes, symptoms may change, too. Trusted websites, like Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, provide updated information as it becomes available.
